If you know your city you know your whole country because you know your city as your country and for you, your city is your country. It is essentially the only place that you know of and you’ll also have an attachment to the city to which you belong. Because you know your city better than everyone else and in video games where you start your journey on a map and play through it a lot of times you get to know very well about the map and its location, angle, and whatnot.
In competitive shooters, maps are the most distinguished thing. They are a variable that remains constant throughout the match. Teams prepared their strategy around the map trying to get every inch of the map correctly and use it to their advantage. In tactical shooters, maps do play a lot of part in the outcome because, unlike fantasy and arcade shooters. You don’t have enough variables in tactical shooters to provide you enough cover for fleeing out of the enemy line.
In arcade and fantasy shooters like Overwatch and Apex Legends, maps do play a part in the outcome of a match. Any player who knows enough about the map its angles and off angles will always have an upper hand on its enemies. Some maps are more popular than others for several reasons. Like the layout of the map is easier or a map is fun to play because it has equal chances of winning for both sides.
So in this blog, we will talk about the best 3 maps in overwatch. The list will include the most played maps and how the overwatch players feel about the game. The ranking will also get affected by the most picked map by overwatch teams in tier 1 matches.
New Junk City:
The first map on the list is the biggest map in the game. It is one of the latest maps added to the game in August of 2023. Now the specific size is not mentioned in the official patch notes on the Overwatch website. But it is safe to assume the size of the considering the distance between 1 flashpoint to another. New Junk City is meant to be played as Control So sharing defending and opposing team win stats does not make sense that is why I am not including them here. New Junk City is only 6 months old but is getting more and more updates daily. All in all New Junk City is one of the most popular maps in the game.
Antarctic Peninsula:
The second map on the list was played at the biggest stage of the game, in last year’s Overwatch league grand finals. The map was ultimately won by Florida Mayhem and they also won that year’s grand finals. So it is clear that many professionals play this map for practicing or for their scrims. The map is played as escort meaning that one team fights for the truck and to escort it while the other team tries to capture it and stop the opposing team from escorting the truck after escorting the payload the aggress team wins or if they don’t succeed to escort out the payload they lose.
The map setting is pretty self-explanatory because of its name. It is set on icy arctic with too many turns to follow and the direct angles for Widow or Anna are not possible. The map was included in the game in February of last year and it was the 41 map of the game. The map itself does not possess a wow factor to it but nonetheless, Arctic Peninsula is one of the most popular maps in the game.
Suravasa:
The last pick on the list is Suravasa and this was the last map of the grand finals at the world championship of 2023. The map is in the tropical side of India; its walls, windows and temples are painted with vibrant colors. The map itself is pretty vibrant with a high tint of saturation. The map was added to the beta on August 10 2023 so it is essentially a 6-month-old map. All in all, suravasa is a pretty famous and recognizable map in Overwatch 2.
